ITALIAN MIDCENTURY SIDE CHAIR AFTER GIO PONTI WITH GOLD AND IVORY CUT VELVET
-
Description
Italian midcentury side chair after Gio Ponti with gold yellow and ivory cut velvet, circa 1950s. So many details, where to begin. The bentwood craftsmanship is exquisite. The wooden legs and seat back are meticulous: gentle leg curves morph into more dramatic seat back curves. Even the seat features a sexy curve. Woodwork was expertly refinished with a light gloss. Jim Thompson cut velvet in a geometric pattern reinforce the period but add a texture and color detail for pop. The gold yellow velvet shapes are raised and the ivory fabric is flush so you feel the shapes as your hand grazes the seat. The chair is Italian all the way and its shape and curves confidently welcome your gaze. A one of a kind piece.
