Iconic Brazilian Jangada Lounge Chair with Ottoman by Jean Gillon, 1968
Romanian-born, naturalized Brazilian Jean Gillon was an architect-designer best known for his design firm Italma WoodArt, for which he designed a range of furniture collections in the 1960s and 1970s. The Jangada Chair designed in 1968 is his most iconic design and has become one of the most important designs of Brazilian Mid-Century Modernist furniture.
Jean Gillon took inspiration for this chair from the shape of a traditional Brazilian fishing boat and used a nylon weave for the netting similar to a fishing net.
Lounge chair and ottoman made of Brazilian hardwood and upholstered in caramel colored leather and supported by nylon nets. Good vintage condition with lovely patina. One button of the ottoman's cushion is missing. Nylon netting has one reperation (see close-up) which does not affect sitting comfort. Measurements of the ottoman are 66 cm width x 44 cm depth x 34 cm height -
