Jangada Brazilian modern armchair and ottoman in Rosewood and leather

$ 19,800
  • Description
    The "Jangada" lounge chair is a captivating fusion of artistry, heritage, and cultural symbolism, encapsulated within a single stunning piece of furniture. Its namesake, drawn from the rustic fishing boats of Brazil's northern coast, infuses it with a poetic connection to the country's maritime traditions.

    Crafted over three months with unwavering attention to detail, the chair's upholstery bears the hallmark of Rio de Janeiro's finest artisans, following the revered methodology of Jean Gillon. The remnants of its manufacturing seal, etched into the wood base, stand as a testament to its pedigree.

    Beyond its surface allure, the chair serves as a poignant reminder of Brazil's design legacy. Echoes of Brazilian Modernism reverberate through its form, echoing the creative brilliance of luminaries like Sergio Rodrigues and Joaquim Tenreiro. Like a cultural artifact, it speaks to the soul of Brazil, inviting admirers to immerse themselves in its rich tapestry of history and innovation.

    Jean Gillon is a Brazilian furniture designer born in Romania in 1919. He studies at the Architecture and Fine arts Schools at the National University. He founded his first company Fábrica de Móveis Cidam in 1961 after emigrating to São Paulo, Brazil in 1956. Gillon's firm designed many luxury hotels throughout Brazil and homes and stores. He was known for his one of a kind tapestries. His second furniture company, WoodArt, produced full lines of Brazilian rosewood furniture and objects-utilizing upholstery and leather along with wood.
