Description A handsome settée and pair of armchairs in neoclassical taste after designs by architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841). The graceful designs Shinkel created for cast-iron furniture for the Prussian royal residences and gardens began in 1825. The Greek Revival designs for this particular suite date to circa 1835 and feature cherubim watering gryphons on the back splat. Anthemia are found throughout the piece with rams head arm rests and cloven hooves feet completing the termini of the curule style legs. This rare complete set of American antebellum iron furniture has been cleaned, primed, and freshly painted with Benjamin Moore's "Aganthus Green" which gives the impression of verdigris and finely cast bronze, United States, circa 1840.
