Description Larger than usual Chippendale Period "Roundabout" corner chair, two pierced spats between three turned column supports, leather drop seat and Marlborough legs with box stretchers; English circa 1760. These chairs were originally for men's dressing but were considered so comfortable they made there way to libraries and reading rooms of the well healed. They are sometimes referred to at sword chairs because of the idea that a man could sit in one of these while wearing a sword, but this is not the case as a gentleman would never wear a sword indoors; English circa 1760.
