Description An Important Collection of English Modernist Designer Funiture and a Piano.

This collection represents an extremely rare occasion to own some of the finest English Art Deco furniture ever produced. It is of exhibition quality and is also signed by its maker and designer, Maurice Adams. Adams, the author of Modern Decorative Art, published 1930, and the father of English Art Deco furniture, earned a reputation for quality both in design and craftsmanship, using only the finest of timbers from around the world. Signed English Art Deco furniture is rarer than it's French counterpart and therefore a collection of this quality and provenance represents a unique opportunity.

This furniture has been in private collection in Palm Springs, California and New York since 1981 and consists of:

-A suite of English walnut, sycamore and ebonized mahogany lounge furniture, designed by Maurice Adams, circa1936, comprising: a carved, free-standing bar, a cocktail table; a sculpture stand and a credenza with fluted, columnar support (4 pieces).
-A sycamore occasional chair, by Maurice Adams, Circa 1936, upholstered in black velvet (1 piece).
Note: Featured on the cover of and in the Ideal Home Magazine, annual edition 1937, a copy accompanies the furniture.
Provenance: The home of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie McMichael, Hendon, and Gallery 25, London. Private Collection Palm Spings, Calif., New York.
-A suite of English walnut, sycamore, and ebonized mahogany seat furniture, designed by Maurice Adams, Circa 1936; comprising a sofa with scalloped front and scrolling arms and a pair of armchairs ensuite, all upholstered in mushroom velvet with dark piping, (3 pieces).
Provenance: Christies London, Gallery 25, Belgravia, London S.W.1.
-An Australian maple and white sycamore bedroom suite, designed by Maurice Adams, circa 1932; comprising a king-sized bed, including a headboard fitted with two demi-lune bedside units, a chest of drawers of simple rectangular form, a vanity with shaped mirror surmount and detachable cheval mirror, complete with matching stool (5 Pieces)
-An Art Deco 'Boudoir' Grand Piano by Strohmenger.
This is an exceedingly rare Strohmenger Art-Deco style baby grand piano built in 1936. Based on our research, it appears that this piano is one of only 300 made, and one of only a handful made with maple and ebonized mahogany. It is a small piano (four foot two inches) making it perfect for the bedroom or urban apartment. The instrument is a strikingly beautiful symmetrical grand shape with the lid opening from the back rather than from the side like most conventional baby grand pianos.

Can be refinished and reupholstered to suit before delivery at additional cost.
Styles / Movements Art Deco, Bespoke, Modern
