Overman Style Swivel Lounge Chair

Period 1950-1979
Condition Good. Great condition. Wear consistent with age and use
Description Elegant, comfortable, and stylish swivel lounge chair done evocative of the Overman style created by the Sweedish interior innovator Carl Eric Klote . This piece features a padded and finely crafted leather lounge seat bolstered firmly by a five pronged original metal base.

Carl Eric Klote created the popular Overman style design method in the late 1950s by inventing a revolutionary new way to produce a furniture frame that was not only incredibly stable and sturdy, but also remarkably light-weight and expandable. This new Klote frame crafted from polystyrene came to be a staple of the Overman Furniture Company, allowing them to produce simple, yet refined pieces of furniture that have since become staples of mid-century interior design. The company hand crafted all of these pieces in Klote’s native Sweden before establishing a factory in Knoxville, Tennessee in the 1970s. From there, Overman solidified themselves as a company that produced high quality and well designed pieces of furniture, even going so far as to offer a 25 year guarantee on all of their pieces and designs. However, as we can see in this piece, that guarantee was far too shortsighted, and the longevity of this kind of product and of Klote’s designs have lasted for decades beyond their original estimate.
