Description An elegant pair of English early 19th century Regency period Klismos chairs, brass-mounted and faux-bois painted to simulate calamander, with squab cushions,

circa 1820.

Three pairs available in total.

These faux-bois painted and cane-seated chairs, with Grecian boldly curved legs and brass ornaments, are designed in the French antique fashion popularised by Thomas Hope and Henry Holland. Their superbly curved 'Sabre' legs derive from the Greek 'Klismos' chair, an epic timeless design, already popular in circa 400 BC, while the lustrous black japanning evoke the then newly fashionable fascination with Ancient Egypt.
