Pair of "MP-61" Armchairs, By Percival Lafer, Brazilian Mid-Century Modern
-
Description
This pair of MP-61 armchairs was designed in the 70s by the master Percival Lafer. It is a very rare piece that demonstrates the genius and unmistakable style of the designer.
Popular during the 60s, interest in spatial aesthetics influenced the use of fiberglass, now applied worldwide to furniture design.
Supported by attractive wooden “x”-shaped legs, the molded fiberglass frame intelligently houses the seat, creating a light and balanced silhouette. Known for creating super comfortable designs, the MP-61 model is probably one of the coziest of its legacy!
The pieces were restored by one of our best craftsmen in São Paulo and kept their original aura and attraction.
Architect and designer Percival Lafer believed that instead of idealizing design, often conceived as art, a piece could only be considered really relevant if it pleased the public, not just the creator.
He is not just recognized for his originality and innovation, but he is also one of the pioneers of the industrialization of the Brazilian design processes. His pieces have an excellent design quality and are made of the best materials and techniques available in traditional furniture making. For him "each project should reflect the state of the art applied to new ideas". Ahead of his time, he was a pioneer in the search for new technical resources and also in the use and combinations of materials with originality and boldness. His creations ended up conquering the world, thus helping to give new meaning to the idea of Brazilian furniture. -
