-
Description
A numbered library chair from the Chandigarh High Court, India. The chair was designed by Pierre Jeanneret and made of a teak frame with a woven cane seating.
This chair comes from the first lot that left Chandigarh and has a pristine provenance.
In 1950 the world renowned architect Le Corbusier was asked to design the capital of the states of Haryana and Punjab in the newly independent India. Le Corbusier designed the master plan and a number of buildings. Pierre Jeanneret, his cousin, served as the site architect and was responsible for all the furniture or Equipment as Le Corbusier prefered to call it. For this project they stepped away from mass produced steel and relayed on the skills of local craftsmen. Jeanneret also designed several buildings for the city and the furniture for many projects, including the High Court.
We have several pieces by Jeanneret available. -
