Description
Gorgeous and rare painted and parcel gilt Swedish Neoclassical style part salon suite, consisting of settee, two bergeres flanked with griffins, marble topped table, together with four matching side chairs. Ca. 1850.
Settee and bergeres of carved, painted, and gilded wood. Handsome and muscular gilded griffins, guardians of gold and companions of Apollo, grace each majestic arm.
Chairs in excellent antique condition, with expected wear and some paint loss. Paint is of a later date. Some losses to gilding on griffins.
Table and side chairs also in good antique condition, with wear appropriate to age and use. Have been repainted at a later date. Some paint loss and minor cracks. (Please note one side chair with visible paint loss on top.) We have kept the paint as it was when we purchased them, but they could be touched up or scraped according to client's preference. In need of new upholstery.
This would be an extraordinary suite installed in an embassy or Ambassador's residence, or anywhere where a truly stately, grand and historical welcome is desired.
Side chairs: 35"H x 18"D x 18"W
Table: 29"H x 33"W
Shown with upholstery suggestions.
