Pair of Ebonized Walnut Slipper Chairs by Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb Co.
-
Description
This stunning and iconic pair of slipper chairs were designed by T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings for the Widdicomb Co. in the United States circa 1950. They offer a handrubbed ebonized walnut frame (revealing the natural woodgrain beneath) with dynamically poised hind legs extending back at an angle and modernized saber legs in front. The chairs have been newly reupholstered in a beautiful smoked lavender velvet. Robsjohn-Gibbings represents one of the premiere British tastemakers of the 20th century. Along with peers, such as Edward Wormley, his aesthetic always tended towards the classical with a modernist edge. This pair of chairs embody that sensibility in stunning terms. With its clean modernist lines and refined palate, they are as timeless as they are beautiful, blending perfectly with any style of decor from classic Mid-Century Modern to contemporary. Mint restored condition.
