Venetian Late 18th Century Painted and Gilt Sofa with Floral and Lyre Motifs
-
Description
A Venetian 18th century painted and gilt wood sofa with new upholstery. This rare Italian sofa features a pierced back, surmounted by a sinuous rail, adorned with delicate painted floral motifs. This back is decorated with five pierced splats, each decorated in a manner reminiscent of a lyre transforming itself into an urn. Indeed, the strings of the lyre poetically morph into flowers surrounded by graceful volutes. Two open scrolled arms flank a central seat that has been reupholstered with a simple muslin fabric. The curvy, Rococo lines of the upper section, is contrasted by the four tapered legs, more Neoclassical in nature, on which the sofa is raised. The result is one of pure elegance and refinement, typical of the Venetian manner. With its lovely silhouette and delicately painted décor, this late 18th century Venetian sofa will bring a light feeling to any room, from a living room to a bedroom.
