Vico Magistretti ‘Carimate’ chairs Italy, c1959

Sold Sold
  • Description
The Carimate chair was born when Vico Magistretti (1920-2006) was conceiving designs for seating at the Carimate golf club in Italy in 1959. The design, which combines traditional Italian craftsmanship and modernist principles has become a classic of understated elegance. This reflects Magistretti background where he and fellow Italian architects aimed to pull the nation into a utopian future after the devastation of World War Two. This approach ultimately led him to hold professorships at the Royal College of Arts in London and the Domus Academy in Milan and his work can be seen in major collections around the world including MoMA, New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. These timeless chairs feature black lacquered wood with sea grass seats, all in very good condition having been relacquered and re-rushed.
