This is an outstanding sofa designed by Joaquim Tenreiro is definitely an eye-catcher. The design of the beautiful solid Brazilian hardwood structure combines beautifully with the minimalistic design. The time marks can be seen on the surface of the nice patina.
The piece was restored by one of our best craftsmen in São Paulo and kept its original aura and attraction.
Tenreiro is widely considered the most important name of Brazilian midcentury design. His creations may be seen in museums and galleries around the world.
Sometimes considered the precursor of the Brazilian modernist tradition, Tenreiro was born in Portugal and moved to Brazil in the late 1920s. There, he worked during the 1950s and 1960s in architectural projects of names such as Oscar Niemeyer and was considered by his peers as a sculptor that also produced furniture. For Joaquim Tenreiro, the lightness of objects did not have to be directly related to the weight per se, but it was a consequence of the functionality and of the material.
