Florence Knoll Architectural 9-Drawer Triple Dresser in American Walnut 1961
-
Description
This monumental triple-dresser was designed by Florence Knoll for her company Knoll & Associates. It was recently acquired from the estate of a retired architect in New Orleans which was an absolute time capsule. Every single piece was well preserved and in excellent original condition. The open wood grain pattern across the top and drawer fronts of the three cabinets is unbroken and fashioned from a single piece of wood. The interiors are constructed from combed grain oak, many of which retain the original white lacquered dividers. The steel drawer guides are all very well balanced and function as intended. There is a built in mechanism that prevents the drawers from unintentionally coming all the way out of the cabinet which can be disengaged for transportation purposes. The reveals between the cabinets and top in tandem with all of the tolerances between the drawers being so perfect give this piece a well balanced architectural sensibility. One of the most unique features of this example is the solid walnut base. These are more commonly found with a steel base and this one was ordered with the wood base to complement the other pieces in the room. It is truly a beautiful and practically functional piece of timeless classic modern design.
