Constructed from a mix of solid and veneered teak this cleverly designed and expertly crafted piece is as versatile as it is aesthetically pleasing. Featuring a utilitarian drop-down secretary desk, a four-drawer dresser, two storage cabinets with sliding doors and five adjustable shelves this wall unit can be arranged and assembled in virtually limitless configurations to suit your space perfectly.

Among all furniture designers, Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) is considered one of the most creative, innovative, and prolific especially amongst his Scandinavian counterparts. Wegner was part of the spectacular generation that created what is today referred to as the Golden Age of modern Danish design. Wegner began his apprenticeship with Danish master cabinetmaker H. F. Stahlberg when he was just 14 years old. Later on, he moved to Copenhagen and attended the School of Arts and Crafts from 1936 to 1938 before setting out as a furniture designer.

The core of Wegner’s legacy is his focus on showing the inner soul of furniture pieces through a simple and functional exterior. Wegner’s background as a cabinetmaker gave him a deep understanding of how to integrate exacting joinery techniques with exquisite form. His aesthetic was also based on a deep respect for wood and its characteristics, and a vast curiosity about other natural materials that enabled him to bring an organic, natural softness to formalistic minimalism which are on full display in this ultra functional wall unit.

Condition Details: Save for a few minor repairs this exquisite wall unit is in original, vintage condition. The mix of solid and veneered teak shows only minor signs of vintage wear such as scratches, small areas of minor discoloration and minor veneer repairs (all of which can be seen in the detail photos provided). With that said the Burmese teak composition is in over all very good condition and the variegated woodgrains are absolutely mesmerizing in natural light.

All six drawers (two inner and four outer) open and close with ease as do the four sliding doors located on the storage cabinets. The two locks and one key all function as does the lamp located inside the secretary desk and includes the functioning bulb seen in the photos.

The drop-down secretary desk top opens and closes with ease and includes two small drawers (one locking) and several storage cubbies for maximum storage within a small space. All five shelves, two storage cabinets, desk and mini four-drawer dresser cabinet are adjustable and interchangeable to fit your space and taste as you wish.
