Italian 18th Century Oak Sideboard
-
Description
An Italian solid oak sideboard, circa 1780, exhibiting dramatic carvings and depth of color that will have undeniable magnitude in any room. The buffet has a very tactile surface, the planks still display the ripples from having been milled by hand, and pieced together with wood dowels. On the front of the case, two doors and three pilasters exhibit distinctly carved motifs in architectural and foliate inspired shapes. Behind the doors, which close with a carved wood latch, is a compartment with a single shelf, 16 ¾” deep. This heavy and solid oak sideboard is set upon a pair of sled legs at either side that protrude as bracket-style front feet, raising the piece off the floor. The dark, smooth wood has been cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to reveal every historic detail gained over the past three centuries. Please view the additional images for further detail on the piece.
