A Classical Sofa Table

Price Upon Request
  • Description
This beautiful Classical sofa table is believed to have been created in the shop of the preeminent cabinetmaker Duncan Phyfe. At this time, the firm went by the name, D. Phyfe and Sons, and the furniture made during this last period of his career is now referred to as “Grecian Plain Style”. Instead of carving and ornament, all of the flat surfaces are covered in highly figured mahogany veneers. The sofa table was used extensively in Regency furniture but rarely appeared in American furniture. This table relates closely to a group of furniture supplied from Phyfe’s shop for Governor John Lawrence Manning at Milford Plantation in South Carolina.
