Angelo Mangiarotti (attr. ) Marble 'Eros' Side Table, Italy
-
Description
Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-1912) an Italian architect and industrial designer who went on to create furniture designs in the 1960s and 70s - with large urban sculpture commission later in his life. The 'Eros' series was created for Skipper in 1971 and included side and dining tables made in solid Italian marble. A defining feature of the design is the gravity joint with an organic/polished marble top and center hole that fits perfectly over a cone-shaped solid marble base, though not connected and can be separated. The marble cone apex is removed to create a flat table surface. Beautiful gray marble with white and reddish seams. Attributed to Mangiarotti, not marked. Possibly made in the 'Eros' style.
