Gilded and Carved Two-Drawer Console of Extraordinary Quality

Creation Date Circa 1730
Description A mid-eighteenth century gilded and carved console of vigorous and exuberant design and movement from Turin. Self-supporting on four exaggeratedly curved legs which have an open work inner scroll. The legs are covered with carved scrolls, foliate and beading details, terminating in pied de biche hooves. The center of the apron has a carved upright vole shell (melon conch, belonging to the family of Melongenidae) and flowers with the most unusual feature; two flanking drawers worked into it. The blu turquinn conforming original marble top with double molded edge, called Bardiglio dei Valdieri in Italian. By Benedetto Aufieri (1st Royal Savoy Architect.)
