Coffee Table in Ashwood for Fausto Bontempi by Sandrini Francesco, Brescia 1961

Sold Sold
  • Description
Coffee table in ashwood and Mansonia-walnut by Fausto Bontempi. The Italian architect Fausto Bontempi was a very active architect in the Brescia region but relatively undiscovered elsewhere. He has a number of special projects to his credit, such as the unique and innovative villa “Casa Caffetto” built in 1972 for the late artist Claudio Caffetto. This villa can still be called modern by today's standards. In Salo, also in the municipality of Brescia, he designed a large residential complex called “La Valle”. If desired, he also designed the interior for his projects, including, of course, the furniture.

    Design
The maestro had his furniture made by the furniture maker Francesco Sandrini, also based in Brescia. An absolute master of his craft given the way in which this beautiful coffee table was created and has easily withstood the test of time. Ash wood and solid Mansonia walnut wood have been combined for the frame or so to say structure of the table. The result is a solid construction with a warm patina acquired over the years. The wood joints and space that have been left in between create a play of shadow and light, and because the table seems to come loose from the floor, an extra element of airiness has been added. Commissioned by Mr. Maggini for his “Casa Maggini” of the same name, this coffee table is part of a series of furniture that was completed after his commission. Refined and in proportions that exude charm and elegance. By the way, the glass top with subtle faceted edges is made of amber glass by the illustrious manufacturer Persol.

    Condition
The quality of this item is very good with only minimal signs of use on the wood.
