Description Authenticated by the Jean-Michel Frank Committee.

This limed oak and iron dressing table/desk was commissioned between 1936 and 1938 for Comte as an alternative to the original leather clad ‘bureau plat’. The iron construction of the base makes it possible to keep the legs to a minimum.
In 1931, Jean-Michel Frank designed a three-drawer ‘bureau plat’, or console desk, based on a Louis XVI model from which he removed all ornamentation. A year later, Frank founded the company Comte in collaboration with Argentinian architects. For the following decade several of Jean-Michel Frank's designs were produced by Comte, with Frank's approval. Combining the best of Frank and the best of Argentine tradition, the original three-drawer console desk was produced by Comte, circa 1936, as a dressing table, the middle section raising to reveal a mirror.
