An incredible Danish cabinetmaker's low table (or even a bench) crafted from a single, axe-formed piece of elm wood and supported by two 'trunk' legs. Nearly nine and a half feet in total length, the top surface is rough-hewn with a very subtle, gradation in height (10.5" to 12.5") from end to end, along with stunning variance in wood figure and shading. Scattered, gnarly burls protrude from the dramatically asymmetrical underside that makes the table appear as a giant wedge or splinter from one side ... in fact, the table looks unique from every angle and quietly dominates the room. A presumed one-off design, circa 1950s.
