Description The cuban mahogany top above 3 drawers with original pulls, surrounded by fine line inlaid banding. The base in dark walnut richly carved with four animal legs, terminating in animal paw feet with 4 toes- all the quality woods and carving make this piece attributed to Duncan Phyfe. Although he did not create any new furniture style, he interpreted fashionable European trends in a manner so distinguished and particular, that he became a major spokesman for Neoclassism in the United States, influencing a whole generation of cabinet makers. Phyfe was not known for adding his maker's mark to his furnishings, instead letting his distinctive style stand testament to the maker.
