French 19th Century Empire Desk

$ 3,200
  • Description
    A handsome Empire desk from 19th century France. Made from a beautiful mahogany that’s been cleaned and polished to reveal the vibrant grain. The top is inset with the original worn caramel toned leather, detailed with gold tooling around the perimeter. Some repairs to the leather are visible, adding to the desk’s antique charm. A larger center drawer is flanked by four smaller drawers, all fixed with matching leafy brass escutcheons. Two keys are included to provide access to the drawers, however only the center and top left drawers locking mechanism are in working condition. All drawers have been cleaned and easily open. On either side of the drawers, two column-like forms feature beautifully detailed ormolu depicting a cherub on the capital and lambs tongue border on the base. Finished on all sides, the opposite side of the desk is finished with faux drawers and matching ormolu. Tapered, rectangular legs are fixed with brass sabots in the shape of clawed feet for protection and aesthetics. Make sure to view the detailed images for a closer look.
