French 19th Century Rosewood Game Presentation Table
-
Description
Beautiful Brazilian rosewood was milled, turned and carved to make this spectacular table, used for presenting game following a successful hunt. The table is topped in a piece of white marble that dates to the table’s construction. Its edge is rounded, as are the corners, with some surface scratches and wear that is to be expected from decades of presenting the harvests of countless hunts. The deep apron houses two deep drawers, both having brass drop pulls. The apron has a shaped design. Four tapered legs, which have been magnificently carved, lift the table. They were turned, with linear fluted grooves and acanthus leaf ornamentation. Rosewood is an extremely hard wood that is naturally resistant to insects. When properly cured, it is also a resilient medium that resists rot and warping. These factors, along with its innate beauty and wonderful grain, make rosewood an ideal and sought-after material for furniture construction, both then and now.
