Round Coffee Table by Giuseppe Scapinelli in Caviuna and Marble, Brazil, 1950's
-
Description
Striking coffee table designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli in the 1950s. Great example of Brazilian mid-century modern design. Made from caviuna wood, the table features a softly curved, bowl-like top supported by four elegantly shaped legs. The center is fitted with a marble insert, adding a refined contrast to the rich, warm tones of the wood.
Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in Modena, Italy, in 1911. He moved to São Paulo, Brazil, in 1948, where he established himself as an important furniture designer. In addition to running his furniture business, he also founded a rug company, reflecting his broad interest in interior design. Scapinelli’s work often combines gentle, curved forms with high-quality Brazilian woods, creating designs that are both functional and artistic. His style reflects his Italian roots while embracing Brazilian materials and influences, making his pieces highly sought after today.
This table, with its blend of natural materials and careful craftsmanship, showcases the designer’s attention to detail and skill. -
