Description Handcrafted table of boldly grained oak with chamfered edges and inset leaves by Florentine artisan and designer Guglielmo Pecorini, produced in Italy circa 1950 and purchased by the previous owner from Lord & Taylor in 1951. The graceful, sensual curving and swelling of the legs is reminiscent of Ponti, though the table has a somewhat more rustic feel. Pecorini, known for carved wood accessories shaped like fruit or nuts as well as furniture designs, was highly regarded in his day, and his small body of artisanal work turns up at major auctions such as Wright today. He is pictured at work in his small atelier in "Italy at Work" (1955), and his chairs are shown along with Craft productions by peers such as Carlo Mollino, Fontana Arte, Azucena, Cesare Lacca, and casa e Giardino. Lord & Taylor, along with Macy's and Bloomingdale's, was in the early 1950s a proponent and purveyor of "Good Design." The table opens to 103", and the leaves follow the graining pattern of the top.
