Meret Oppenheim 'Traccia' Table, Studio Simon, Italy, circa 1972

Sold Sold
  • Description
Meret Oppenheim 'Traccia' table produced for Studio Simon's Collezione Ultramobili , Dino Gavina, Milan, circa 1972.

The tabletop is in gold leaf with the characteristic bird tracks impressed on the surface, the underside is painted with deep bronze-gold coloured paint and is supported by slender bronze shafts in the form of bird legs. The first of the Studio Simon tables, unlike the later Cassini edition, had the feet welded to the shank just below the ankle as per this piece.

The original table was exhibited by the Surrealist artist Meret Oppenheim in 1939 for the Parisian gallery René Drouin in which fantastical and surrealistic furniture and art were presented. Dino Gavina later collaborated with Oppenheim to produce the table commercially for Studio Simon, Milan, in 1972.
