  • Description
    TBL 18-60
A marquetry table with gilt bronze mounts and secret drawer opening in apron
Stamped: Pierre Macret (1727–1796, active 1756–1785)
    France, mid 18th century
    Size: 28” high x 28 ¼” wide x 16” deep (71 x 72 x 40.5 cm.)

Pierre Macret was a royal artisan circa 1758. Macret fabricated numerous small, ingenious pieces of furniture, tables with pull-outs, work tables, gueridons, tripods, and light-holders, and was considered an ébéniste of great talent. He also made larger pieces, which were massive, with heavy legs and were made with great care. A commode of Macret’s made a record price in 1935 at the F. Guérault sale in Paris, and a simpler one with his signature made a large price too in 1948. His lines were discreet and pure, often in the taste of Canabas. His works were rich, sumptuous and fine.
