French Art Deco 1920s Platinum Onyx Rock Crystal Diamond Jade Geometric Brooch

Period 19th Century

Creation Date 1850-1859
Description During the 1920s, inspiration was shifting away from the creative influences found in nature of the late 1800s and towards more rigid and sharper lines found in geometric patterns. T As seen in the present example, the use of Jade was integrated for clients hoping to incorporate elements of the far away lands into their wardrobe. As result, design firms would incorporate the use of Jade because of its vibrant color and to ability to satisfy society's fascination with exotic travel. The present piece is a very well made and has many elements considered quintessential for the French Art Deco period such as hand carved hard stone, onyx platinum and diamond to name a few.

The brooch is designed as a geometric pattern with the hand carved jade sitting against a back drop of rock crystal both with brilliant round diamond accents to add further high fashion style. Interesting, the back is also designed with Onyx to give an extra effect to the rock crystal from the viewing side which it is mounted on top of. The brooch shows very little signs of wear with no cracks to the onyx, jade or rock crystal and can be worn versatilely as a casual piece or cocktail attire.
