The shells of this sea snail species, which dates back 100 million years to the Upper Cretaceous period, feature a distinctive spiral sculpture with an inner layer of nacre or mother of pearl. The outer shell can be smooth or spiny in colors ranging from gold to pearl to silver to jade green.
