Description
This important ring dating from the mid to late 20th century centers a cushion-cut Burma sapphire weighing 5.97 carats, set in platinum and flanked by straight diamond baguettes. It is accompanied by a report from American Gemological Laboratories stating that the sapphire is natural, of Burma origin, with no evidence of heat treatment, and deserving of the special color designation "Royal Blue". The "Royal Blue" color is considered the optimal designation of hue, tone and saturation exhibited by sapphires from this region. Of a graceful shape, ideal in size for the hand, this gorgeous specimen gem is candy for the finger, as well as an investment in a rare and dwindling treasure of mother nature.
Item #: R-20651
Size: 6.5
Materials: 1 cushion-cut sapphire (with approximate total weight 5.97 carats); 2 baguette diamonds (with approximate total weight 0.44 carat); platinum
Documentation: Accompanied by report # 1124717 dated 26 July 2022 from American Gemological Laboratories stating that the sapphire is of Burma origin, with no evidence of heat, and in the appendix bears the color designation "Royal Blue".
CURATOR'S NOTES
In the stone tract of Mogok, world famous Burma rubies are found with almost 10 times greater frequency than sapphire. It was after World War I when magnificent discoveries of Burma sapphires first came to prominence and captured the attention of world gem connoisseurs. Due to their saturated blue color, relative lack of inclusions, and rarity, Burma sapphires command some of the highest prices per karat in the precious stone market. -
