Description An extremely Audemars Rare Mens Size 42mm Plique Du Jour double sided Enamel Repousse engraved scalloped Ultra thin case design pocket watch with Horse Racing Racing scene to Front in two tone pink gold and Yellow Gold and to the reverse side probably one of the most sought after famous Lake Geneva Scene - all in perfect condition no enamel loss with additional awards noted on the cuvette as well.

The preset timepiece is not only completely gorgeous in workman ship but and unique in style as it was likely interesting pocket so few were commissioned especially in this size and with enamel hunting case on both sides.

Likely awarded for a famous horse race given its motif, this very special commission required immense skill levels from all entities involved make it a trophy piece for even the most celebrated collector. Typically, workmanship such as on this present example is only found on smaller enamel pocket watches ranging from 28-31mm as
Large scene required additional enameling and planning and therefore more room for error and risk of damaging the case especially if so heavily engraved as the present example exhibits.

Below I have broken down the process and attributes explained on this work of art and included some general understanding for its commission which were involved

Plique Du Jour Enameling Art

The present example exhibits for those unfamiliar with pique du jour enameling a type of enameling utilized specifically during the art nouveau periods from 1860s to 1900s which during this timeframe was considered extremely difficult process compared to regular enameling as a means to achieve a monochromatic , metallic sheen as light hits the enamel scenes by reheating additional times and mixing hues to produce making it a much longer in-depth process for one creation to be finished and also with high risk of damage in the process and also over time an even great risk of enamel loss as it is over a 100 year olds. The present example has no signs of enamel loss and has been perfectly reserved as well from original owner and passed down through generations before being offered here today.

Repousse Engraving
The present example also exhibits Repousse Engraving which is a gold workman ship art form that creates higher more exaggerated relief as seen on the present example much like a sculpture. It differs from basic engraving as it requires deeper cuts and more metal to work with as a means to get that higher relief as well as additional planning and time to determine which locations to cut into especially if a planned enamel scene is expected to be hand painted next as the present example has on both front and reverse case. Additionally interesting the profile is seamlessly engraved creating a scalloped effect as the watch is reviewed in 360 views into the front and case back making it difficult for the eye to recognize where one side leaves off and another begins giving it an extra sleek and sporty feel as on would expect from an award winning pocket watch for horse racing and by doing so it also made the case ultra thin.

Ultra Thin Mechanical Movement
The Ultra thin mechanical movement important to note is in perfect working condition and with no signs of discoloration or residue inside and out
In order to be able to fit into such a sleek and sporty design, the movement had to be redesigned and re innovated from a key wind and key set pocket watch design as a means to fit into the thinner case designs clients requested. As a result, watchmakers invented in the late 1800s the ultra thin movement to make it thin enough to complete their clients special orders as with this present example and eventually moved the technology forward as means to get even thinner over time as the competition occurred for many years to come upon starting here in the same period as this present example has been commissioned.

Important to note, the pocket watch is highly unique as the majority of the case is in rose gold a very special commission back then as most standard examples were yellow gold and further accented as with the scene of the horse racing against the sun of yellow gold instead.
It is clear under observation this was a highly personalized special order for a very important likely horse racing event which was also growingly popular during this timeframe. To add further appeal it is also one of the creations of Louis Audemars while the firm was first starting out.
