Description Hodaka Yoshida, the son of world renowned Japanese artist Hiroshi Yoshida began his artistic career as an oil painter. It was in 1949 that he first started to experiment with abstract woodblock prints. In 1952, he first showed his abstract woodblocks at the Japan Print Association show. After the initial show and its overwhelming reception he began to show at biennials worldwide. His career is divided in stages. "Daisen in Garden" was created in 1953 and is from the first stage which lasted from 1950-1953. It was characterized by semi-abstract visual essays with little or no spatial depth or perspective.

Yoshida's work can be found in museum collections worldwide including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution and the museum of Modern Art to name a few.
