  • Description
A contemporary print of a drawing by James Adam, Scottish architect and younger brother of Robert Adam, of the Portico at Syon House, the London residence of the Dukes of Northumberland. In 1762, the 1st Duke of Northumberland commissioned the Adam Brothers and Capability Brown to renovate Syon House and Park. It is one of the earliest residences to feature the new “Adam Style” inspired by the newly rediscovered site of Pompeii. Work at Syon House lasted until 1769 and the Circular Closet can be found at the end of the Long Gallery serving as an elaborate niche.

The current canvas available through a licensing program with the Sir John Soane Museum, which holds 80% of all extant Adam drawings.
