Sold Sold
  • Description
From the collection of Milton Celsnick of Penn's Landing, Philadelphia. The Fire Association was the first fire insurance company to grow out of volunteer fire departments in America. Eleven fire engine and hose companies joined the Fire Association in 1817. Beginning with no capital the property of the associated fire companies was pledged, and the good credit of the trustees ensured that policies were written from he first year of the company's charter in 1820. the firemark adopted by the company was a fire plug with a length of hose attached to it. This is a fine example with original paint and the rarest of the convex type.
