Description
A pair of rare and early wall sconces designed by Paavo Tynell (1890-1973) for Taito Oy, circa 1940s. Made of brass with two lights and fitted with original woven rattan shades and filial plates. Ed. Taito Oy and branded on both sconces, Taito A, circa 1940. Tested and they are in working condition.
Paavo Tynell is one of the most celebrated Finnish designers in the 20th century. His vintage lighting design elevated illumination into an art form by using materials like brass, opaque glass and perforation patterns. Rattan is one of the less common materials he used occasionally in his designs to create a relaxed yet very refined indirect lighting.
His vintage designs are in high demand among collectors in today's market.
