An unusually large pair of carved and gilded three-light candelabra
Genoa, eighteenth century.
Size: 23” high x 15’ wide x 10” deep (58.5 x 38 x 25.5 cm.)
An unusual and large pair of carved and gilded wood three-light candelabra with bôbeche made with layers of leaves. The rocky base supports tree trunks and an urn on each. The urns with pine cone finials and relief figures from the antique; on the frieze tree branches emanate from them with a peacock resting on each urn. There is a little boy leaning on each urn, seated on the ground.
A similar gilt bronze candelabrum by Francesco Ladatte, circa 1770 with a tree and branches holding the candle nozzles with a dog attacking a boar is in the Palazzo Reale in Turin. - More Information
