  • Description
Al Qoyawayma is a Hopi potter and sculptor in addition to being a mechanical engineer who helped develop inertial guidance systems used in the United States' space program. He learned pottery making from his aunt, Elizabeth White. Corn (or maize) represents the essence of life to the Hopi. The corn arises out of the clay, both being intrinsically joined.
