Since 2001, Miami has been home to North America’s foremost international modern and contemporary art fair – Art Basel Miami Beach. It is the sister fair to the original Art Basel, founded in Switzerland in 1970. 269 galleries from all over the world will display in half-a-million square feet of exhibition space, divided into nine sectors – Galleries, Nova, Positions, Edition, Kabinett, Survey, Public, Film, and Magazines. “Nova” features new works, “Positions” consists of booths with work by a single artist, “Edition” features leading publishers of editioned works and prints, “Kabinett” is a separate space within gallery booths where they present a curated exhibition by an artist of their choice, “Survey” presents precise art historical projects, “Public” is where outdoor sculptures, site specific installations and performance art are free and open to everyone. While Art Basel is undeniably the main draw of Miami Art Week, it has spawned more than 20 satellite fairs in Miami Beach, from Midtown to Downtown, including Art Miami and Design Miami/. Whether you choose to wander freely through the maze of booths and installations or you would prefer to be guided by an expert, there is no better place to let your whim be your guide than Art Basel.

The word “resolution” has multiple meanings – it can be described as “coming into view” or “overcoming conflict.” Art & Resolution, 1900 to Today at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art examines both of these meanings through works that touch upon the pressing social and political issues of the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition brings together 150 highlights from the museum’s permanent collection, and emphasizes print and photography portfolios that visualize resolution and its conceptual foundation. Works by prolific artists such as Dorothea Lange, Robert Rauschenberg, Shirin Neshat, and Adi Nes are included, with artistic responses to a range of global issues including climate change, world wars, financial ruin, and the violation of human rights.

Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum

700 North 12th Street, Wausau, WI 54403

Lindsy R. Parrot, the director and curator of The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass in Queens, New York, will be speaking at the opening of Tiffany Glass: Painting with Color and Light on Saturday, December 3 at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin. She will delve into what makes Tiffany windows and lamps so widely admired, how they differ from other stained glass works, and how Tiffany used glass and innovative fabrication techniques to “paint” with color and light. The traveling exhibit from the Neustadt Collection features some of the most iconic and celebrated of Tiffany’s works, comprising five windows, 20 lamps, and 100 pieces of opalescent flat glass and glass “jewels” that illustrate the rich expanse of color and light available to the artists at Tiffany Studios, founded by Louis C. Tiffany in 1881. The exhibit will be on display through the spring of 2017, where it will then move to its next destination: the Cincinnati Art Museum.
