French, 1760 - 1800
François-Nicolas Martinet (c. 1760-1800) was a French painter and naturalist known for his ornithological illustrations. He began his career as a painter of porcelain, but later turned his attention to the study and illustration of birds. He produced a number of works on the subject, including "Histoire des oiseaux peints dans tous leurs aspects," which contained over 600 plates of birds in their natural habitats.
