Tiffany Reversed Intaglio Crystal set in 18K of a French Bulldog
-
Description
An exceptional example of a Reverse Intaglio Crystal Stickpin, with an image of a French Bulldog, beautifully set in an 18K gold micro beaded bezel . Marked on reverse: Tiffany & Co. 18K. Reverse painted crystals, often referred to as Essex Crystals were very popular in Europe and England. They were all the rage from 1860s up to the 1930's. Not all reverse carved crystals are the same! This superb example is executed in a larger size one inch diameter crystal. Possibly made by Thomas Cook or Thomas Bean around the 1900s, this was most likely commissioned by a private client to pay tribute to a favorite pet. Hand carved and reverse painted on mother of pearl, Sporting and Animals were favorite subjects. The actual process is painstaking and tedious, with many steps and tools involved to create these individual masterpieces. Considered a miniature work of art by collectors worldwide, this would make a welcome addition to an existing collection or the beginning of a new one.
