This is a museum quality gold cigarette box decorated with a small model of a Supermarine Spitfire fighter airplane, made from platinum and inlaid with diamonds, applied to the lid. This was custom made by Cartier and given as a gift to a fighter pilot during World War II. Very beautifully executed, as expected from Cartier, the hinges are nearly invisible. The box is signed Cartier and marked 14k. There are initials 'N. E.' and 'Febuary 20th 1942' inscribed inside the lid. ( The box weigns 120.8 g or 3.885 ozt). This must have been a very special gift for the receiver N. E. A historical item for the Aviation and World War II collector.
