Magician's Trick, Double Wood Boxes with Ties, Circa 1890

$ 435
  • Description
    This item is from a collection of "magic" props from a California estate, and was accumulated in New York City; home to many famous conjurors; Houdini, Hermann The Great, and Copperfield to name a few. It remained wrapped up since at least the 1940's until recently when I unpacked it; dates from the late 1800's.

    I am not familiar with this Magician's prop consisting of a box within a box but I presume an object appears in the interior box that was previously and perceptually outside of both boxes. The ribbon ties secure the lid from being opened.

    The boxes are of good quality and made of solid mahogany with nice color and patina; probably American circa 1890. Very tiny brass screws secure all sides of both boxes. Both are in excellent all original condition.

    Dimensions: outer box= 5 3/8" wide x 3 7/8" deep x 4 3/8" high
    inner box= 3 7/8" wide x 2 9/16" deep x 3 1/2" high
