Pair of Rare Lacquer and Brass Sconces by Gio Ponti, Italy, 1950
-
Description
Pair of large sculptural sconces designed by arch Gio Ponti made in Milan 1950. White enameled frame's each with two triangular brass; enamel elements that house two bulbs each which illuminate a beautiful light.
Each sconce displaying a porcelain figure in Chinese costume, this is the way these sconces were originally shown in the apartment in Italy.
Very few sconces of this type were made, I am sure that all were commissions, similar sconces are illustrated in Gio Ponti book "L'arte si innamora dell'industria" pages 250 - 253.
Rare and unusual, great design by one of Italy's best architects of the 20th century.
Rewired, they each take four E14 25W bulbs. -
