Description
Oil pastel on paper by the American artist Leon Dolice. Signed lower right. Condition is excellent. The painting appears from my research to be the Banker’s Trust building completed in 1917 in New York City. The building still stands today with landmark status. In original Art Deco frame. Overall 18.75 by 14 inches. Condition of frame is very good to excellent.
Born in Vienna, Dolice is known today for his pastel paintings of New York City street scenes, particularly the area near and around the Third Avenue El. He was friends with George Luks and Herb Roth. His works are in numerous museum collections, including the Museum of the City of New York, New York Public Library, New York Historical Society, among others. -
