French 19th Century Gold Gilt Barometer
-
Description
A brilliant gold gilt barometer, made in France circa 1840. A thermometer can be found above the barometric dial that is encased in gilt. Scrolled ornamentation embellishes the top of the instrument that is cradled by the framed dial face below. The frame is sinuous in shape, with some loss of gilt work, revealing the French red bole substratum beneath. The face is hand-painted on wood, with a styled metal dial front and center. This barometer is no longer in operational condition.
