An Early Regency Chair After Sheraton
-
Description
An early 19th century American armchair. The chair is designed in a regency style with a curved tablet back and open carving leading to gently sloping legs. Bent wood arms connect the back to the front legs, supporting a wide upholstered seat. The mahogany structure is decorated in gold on black with classical iconography in the form of Ancient Greek sphinxes, urns and dolphins coupled with archetypal Federal designs such as stars and a centrally carved bald eagle.
